The slope to end all slopes

With beekeeping, chickens, and an edible garden, Marc and Ziva’s rear garden resembles a modern-day Good Life.

The brief

Marc and Ziva already had the bones of the garden set out, having used a landscaper to build it. They engaged us for the final stage of planting design. Marc wanted to incorporate beekeeping and chickens, and was starting to learn about gardening. Therefore, successional pollen sources were a top priority.

The result

The result is a calming planting scheme that offers pollen sources from February right through to Christmas. The feeling of calm is achieved by using willowy fluid planting textures and a knocked-back palette of blue hues. Scattered within this are a fruit orchard, a herb garden and Manuka plants.

Marc and Ziva had also installed a garden gym, hen house and swimming pool, so green roofs were used to blend in the hard landscaping when looking down from the house above.
